Dominic Solanke backed for more Tottenham success vs Man United, it may not be all positive

Tottenham will be hoping to get another positive result against a Manchester side when they travel to Old Trafford on Saturday.

Tottenham earned a creditable 2-2 draw against Manchester City on Sunday, with Thomas Frank’s men coming from two goals down to secure a point.

Manchester United, on the other hand, secured a dramatic 3-2 win over Fulham on the same day, which made it three victories from three under interim boss Michael Carrick.

Despite their impressive form, Spurs have had the Red Devils’ number in recent years, most notably in Tottenham’s Europa League final win over United last May.

Now, the teams will lock horns again, with former Chelsea and Celtic striker Chris Sutton issuing his prediction for the contest.

Dominic Solanke singled out for praise in Tottenham forecast

Heading into this fixture, Tottenham sit 14th in the table with 29 points, whereas United are fourth and are 12 points better off.

In United’s winning run, they have beaten league leaders Arsenal, bitter rivals City, and Fulham. As a result, Sutton has backed them to edge a tight encounter.

However, he did heap praise on Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke, who scored both goals in their draw against Pep Guardiola’s side.

He said in his BBC Sport prediction column: “Manchester United were slightly fortunate to beat Fulham last time out. A draw would have been about right.

Tottenham, meanwhile, produced a great comeback against Manchester City. I’ve talked about how much I rate Dominic Solanke, and when he is up for Spurs, they are in a much better place as a team.

There is a danger of getting carried away with United under Michael Carrick, and I am expecting Solanke to score again here, but it still feels like United will find a way to win it.

If Tottenham continue their recent good record against United, a win could see them rise to 13th in the Premier League table.

If the Red Devils emerge victorious, however, they could cut the gap to third-placed Aston Villa to just two points. This comes at a time when Thomas Frank is still under pressure to keep his Tottenham job.

Tottenham’s recent stranglehold over Man Utd

United are winless in their last six league games against Tottenham (three draws and three losses), their joint-longest ever run without a win against them.

The last time Tottenham visited Old Trafford in the league in September 2024, Spurs romped to a 3-0 win back when Ange Postecoglou was in charge.

And in regards to Solanke, as seen in the Sofascore graphic above, he has scored five goals in his last five appearances against United in all competitions.

This season, the former Bournemouth striker is averaging a goal every 88 minutes in all competitions this season, the best rate of any Spurs player.

Tottenham’s last three fixtures against Man Utd
Tottenham 2-2 Man Utd – Premier League – 8 November, 2025
Tottenham 1-0 Man Utd – Europa League final – 21 May, 2025
Tottenham 1-0 Man Utd – Premier League – 16 February, 2025

On the flip side, only 19th-placed Burnley (23) and basement side Wolves (21) have conceded more first-half goals than Tottenham (18) in the Premier League this season.

Thomas Frank’s side are winless in all 10 of their league games when behind at the break this term, but conversely, they are unbeaten in all six when leading at half-time.

Ergo, they need a fast start at United, with Solanke key to that.
