Tottenham player power rankings: Mateus Fernandes misses out, fellow new signing instantly in

It's difficult to find many positives surrounding Tottenham Hotspur's start to the 2026-27 season.

Bottom of the Premier League after five games having scored just two goals is not what was expected of Roberto De Zerbi's side.

Vast sums of money were spent on transfer fees this summer with the aim of ensuring 2025-26 was not to be repeated.

But there is now a growing sense of Spurs being in for another relegation battle.

There are, however, some Lilywhites players who can hold their heads high in respect to their individual starts to the campaign.

So, with the first international break of the season in full swing, Tottenham News pieces together its first player power rankings below.

5 - Rodrigo Bentancur

Operating alongside Sandro Tonali in central midfield, Rodrigo Bentancur has a case for being the more impressive player over the £100million man so far.

The 29-year-old was impressive in the draws against Everton and Nottingham Forest, and played well last time out against Aston Villa.

He and Tonali have the makings of a very strong engine room duo, and the Uruguayan could play an essential role in any imminent Tottenham upturn in form.

4 - Andy Robertson

There were many who questioned whether Andy Robertson's time as a quality Premier League starting left-back were over upon his move to Spurs.

Through the opening five games of this season, however, the 32-year-old has proven those doubters wrong.

Per FotMob, no Premier League left-back has created more chances than Robertson's eight this term, whilst his 203 passes completed rank him in the top 5.4 per cent.

He's now the clear number one option over Destiny Udogie, and to have captured his services on a free arguably makes him Spurs' pound for pound signing of the season at this point.

3 - Mohammed Kudus

Mohammed Kudus may only have played 123 minutes of Premier League football this season, but he's made them count.

The 26-year-old, back from a long-term injury, has looked razor sharp over the last few weeks, and was rewarded with an assist against Aston Villa last time out.

In his 45 minutes off the bench in that game, he created one chance, put two shots on goal, completed five dribbles and won nine ground duels.

If he can pick up where he left off after the break, he could be the catalyst to getting Spurs' season going.

2 - Savio

The goal contributions in the league may not be there yet, but Savio has been a breath of fresh air for Tottenham.

His directness and ability to create a piece of magic out of nowhere has been sorely lacking for Spurs in recent times.

No right winger in the top flight is averaging more dribbles completed (4.85) or touches in the opposition box (9.34) per game than Savio this term.

If and when those goal contributions come, the Brazilian has clear match-winning potential for Spurs.

1 - Jan Paul van Hecke

Jan Paul van Hecke isn't just Tottenham's signing of the summer so far - he's Spurs' best player on the pitch right now.

Not many centre-backs in the Premier League can claim to be playing better than the Dutchman is currently, which is superb given Spurs' league troubles.

Van Heckle leads all top-flight central defenders for his 106 line-breaking passes, and has yet to be dispossessed once all season.

That's despite the fact he ranks in the top 6.2 per cent of players in his position for successful passes (366) and touches (465).

Tottenham have plenty of things to figure out at the back, but in Van Hecke, they've placed a cornerstone piece for the future.
