Tottenham have made an approach to sign Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey ahead of the transfer deadline, according to Sky Sports.

Via their online transfer centre (3 February), Sky Sports have claimed that Spurs "made checks" for Bailey but Villa are unlikely to sanction an exit this late in the window.

Tottenham look set to be bolstered by the arrival of Mathys Tel [Florian Plettenberg] but remain keen to add further attacking reinforcements.

If Tottenham are to add to their squad, efforts will need to be ramped up with Bailey seemingly now off the cards.

Tottenham causing further attacking signings

While any move for Bailey appears dead in the water, the link should be a cause for optimism that Spurs are still looking to conclude some further business ahead of the deadline.

Quality in the final third has been lacking this season, although the pending arrival of Tel should remedy that. Whether that will be enough remains to be seen.

Having recently had a bid rejected for Marc Guehi, there is money to be spent and whether Spurs opt to use that elsewhere is an option.

However, with just hours remaining until the window slams shut, time is running out for Tottenham to utilise those seemingly available finances and they could certainly do with a further injection of quality in a bid to revive their season.
