Tottenham line up lucrative new announcements as expert reveals delay

Published on

Tottenham Hotspur were hurt in more ways than one by their latest Premier League disappointment.

For the second season running, Spurs finished 17th, but it was far more nervy this time around as survival was only secured on the final day.

Roberto De Zerbi was the saviour in the end, sweeping up the mess of Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor in North London.

Spurs have taken their time to confirm pre-season plans, with a return to action now planned on 22 July against MK Dons.

After that, they will travel to New Zealand and Australia to compete in several friendlies, including versus Chelsea.

That only accounts to four friendlies so far, though, and John Wenham believes it will be a busy time for the commercial team right now to find more.

Tottenham to secure lucrative new agreements

Spurs appear to be far behind their rivals right now.

Even take someone like Leeds for example, who are not only touring the United States, but will take on Manchester United in the Republic of Ireland after at Croke Park.

Spurs don't have those headline games, and several failures in recent years have been pointed out by Wenham.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, the founder of Lilywhite Rose and expert on all things Spurs, believes that lucrative fixtures will be announced, with the relegation fight not helping with the delay.

“When you’re getting these lucrative sponsors from people in the Middle East, or Norway, it is quite a common place there for pre-season games, or sometimes in the Republic of Ireland and things like that, they’re waiting on what division you’re going to be in," Wenham said.

“Tottenham weren’t able to confirm that, whilst a lot of other teams were confirming their pre-season plans, like the Chelsea game in Australia was confirmed way back in December, when nobody could have envisaged Tottenham being in the position they were in May.

“I expect it’s quite a busy time for Tottenham’s commercial department, lining up those lucrative pre-season friendlies."

Who have Tottenham played in recent years?

Compare this quiet plan to recent years and it's a shock.

Spurs played Arsenal, Newcastle and even Bayern Munich last season, making it a second consecutive year against the Germans and Harry Kane.

Even though it may be disappointing not to see similar games this time around, that preperation didn't exactly deliver great results in the competitive season.

All eyes will be on what is to come.
