Three Tottenham questions to emerge over the past seven days include how do you get the best out of Solanke?

Tottenham Hotspur might be thankful for the international break.

The opening weeks of the 2026/27 campaign have been absolutely dismal for Roberto De Zerbi and his players.

Despite spending over £300million in the summer, Tottenham headed into the elongated international break rock bottom of the Premier League.

They did at least get off the mark in the goals column in the top flight last time out, but left it too late in a 3-2 defeat at home to Aston Villa.

When domestic football returns, there will be a pressure of course to start chalking up wins in the top flight.

In the meantime, here are three questions Tottenham News has picked out over the past seven days.

How does Roberto De Zerbi get the most out of Dominic Solanke?

Tottenham have a real tactical issue to solve in attack, and a lot of it centres on how to get Dominic Solanke scoring.

In five top-flight appearances, Solanke is only averaging one shot per game, and 0.2 on target.

His expected goals sits at just 0.56, and there is a real problem in how De Zerbi gets more out of Solanke.

One theory is that the return of James Maddison should help, because he will play closer to Solanke.

But he must get his wide men providing way more from out wide, because Solanke will only thrive on early service into the box.

Has the international break actually come at the right time for Tottenham?

Considering Spurs have just two points from five Premier League games, you might take the opinion that they need to keep playing to get a win as soon as possible.

But, on the other hand, maybe just taking a step back and regrouping is exactly what Tottenham need.

There was a lot of squad changes in the summer, and this team is still trying to figure each other out a little.

De Zerbi might have more time to figure out some solutions, and maybe stepping back from the pressure might do the players good.

The proof will, of course, be in the pudding, but it might be a blessing in disguise for Tottenham.

Is De Zerbi Tottenham's biggest problem?

The obvious answer here feels no, and certainly fan opinion seems to accept that there is far more to worry about than just the manager.

There is pushback against suggestions that De Zerbi is Spurs' biggest problem, because realistically he isn't.

What is fairer to suggest is that De Zerbi is the man who has to solve the biggest problems because that is quite literally his job.

So, the wins do have to start coming and Spurs simply cannot be bottom of the table by the next international break.

But right now, is he the biggest problem? Probably not, no.
