Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro will continue his World Cup journey after Spain defeated Austria 3-0.

The 2010 World Cup winners are looking for glory again, and Porro is emerging as a key asset for Luis de la Fuente.

The Spurs defender has had to battle his way into the squad after being benched for the opening game.

And now he looks to be the first-choice right back for Spain after proving his worth.

Porro can now add a goal to his account for his nation, and the World Cup is some place to notch your first international goal.

The Spanish media were certainly left impressed by what they saw in Los Angeles.

How the Spanish media rated Tottenham's Pedro Porro

After scoring a goal for Spain and keeping a clean sheet, reactions from the media were aways likely going to be glowing.

However, they appear to be more praiseful than many may expect with comparisons to some of the world's best players.

Despite Spain having stars such as Lamine Yamal - a top-two Ballon d'Or-level player - the media has placed Porro on the same pedestal as the Barcelona forward.

Outlet AS has shared that Porro is " just as important as the dazzling stars", which of course would include the 18-year-old winger.

They state: "After the impressive performance and excellent showing, precisely when other teams have had to fight tooth and nail to qualify, the supporting players emerge, those just as important as the dazzling stars. I'm referring to Marc Cucurella and Pedro Porro.

"Porro is a tough guy. He's managed to silence the English laughter that followed his match with Spain against Scotland . Those who were laughing will be crying today seeing him at a World Cup and scoring."

Meanwhile, Marca stated that he appeared as a classic number nine in the box for his goal and that it let him "cap off another great performance".

They awarded Porro an 8.5 match rating for his display against Austria.

Furthermore, Sport have issued the same rating for the Tottenham defender, but have not expanded on the reasoning behind that decision.

How Porro has solidified his World Cup starting role

Scoring and keeping a clean sheet will certainly help Porro maintain his spot as Spain's starting right-back but his performance was more than just those two facts.

According to FotMob, Porro was an instrumental figure in De la Fuente's attack. He ended the match with the joint-most chances created (five).

Porro's crossing was also a dangerous quality for Austria as he completed three out of his seven attempted

Meanwhile, defensively he got stuck in against the European nation as well. He won five out of six of his contested duels.

Porro also completed seven recoveries throughout the match and maintained a dribble success rate of 100 per cent through his only attempted dribble.

Overall, the praise from the Spanish media is certainly backed by the data, and, moving forward, he is assuredly safe to remain Spain's first-choice right-back.

And also confirming Tottenham were right to offer him a new contract.
