Mathys Tel ripped to shreds after Tottenham loss vs Liverpool - so what's next?

Mathys Tel could have a long and tough road ahead of him at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Lilywhites are still on a terrible run of form, accumulating in the N17 outfit missing out on a chance at silverware already.

Roberto De Zerbi's side were bested by Liverpool 3-1 at Anfield in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, as their winless streak in L4 continued.

And the Italian manager simply got it wrong with his team selection.

The Reds had gone weaker with a rotated side, and for some reason, De Zerbi matched them in making plenty of changes.

However, one player who started and has been a constant was 21-year-old Tel, with concerns over the forward beginning to rear its head from Alan Brazil.

Tel has been an incredibly frustrating player to watch at Spurs this season, and it is not only Lilywhites supporters beginning to notice.

The French winger has had plenty of chances to show his quality, starting five of Tottenham's six matches in all competitions.

But against Liverpool it may have been his worst performance of the season.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Wednesday morning, Brazil - who played for Tottenham in the 1980s - stated about Tel: "I'm not a fan.

"I think he has had his chances, and when I see his name on the teamsheet, I think 'oh no'. I don't rate him, to be honest."

In truth, that's likely what every Tottenham fan is currently thinking.

Tel has been incredibly poor at the start of this season, and was not great towards the end of last campaign either.

Against Liverpool, he was weak in his duels, winning just 38 per cent of the 13 he competed in.

He completed only 40 per cent of his attempted dribbles. He failed to produce any shots, or any key passes.

And he ended the game with a woeful 71 per cent passing accuracy. Most importantly, he did not have a positive impact on the attack.

Why Roberto De Zerbi has clear Tel solution

Tel should not be starting games for Tottenham at the moment, as his form proves he does not deserve it.

And De Zerbi has many options to turn to instead of the French attacker.

Omar Marmoush is capable of playing off the left, and can do so if Dominic Solanke starts up front.

While Savio, who has been used more on the right, is versatile enough to fill out on the left wing.

Lucas Bergvall has also been deployed as a left-sided attacker before, while youth star Luca Williams-Barnett is another option.

The general consensus among Tottenham fans, and those watching on is not a great outlook for Tel.

De Zerbi must take action.
