Mathys Tel fails in one key area in Tottenham draw vs Getafe, De Zerbi won't have changed his mind

Tottenham Hotspur continued their pre-season preparations with a 1-1 draw against Getafe on Saturday.

The fixture was played behind closed doors at Hotspur Way, and comprised of two 35-minute halves instead of a full 90-minute game.

Conor Gallagher scored Tottenham's goal, cancelling out Alberto Risco's opener for the Spanish outfit.

Spurs were back at their training complex after completing a tour of New Zealand and Australia, which was rounded out with a 2-1 victory over London rivals Chelsea.

It was another chance for Roberto De Zerbi to run the rule over his squad with the new Premier League campaign on the horizon.

Mathys Tel was included in the starting line up, but the forward did little to stake his claim for regular minutes - especially in one area.

It is absolutely no secret that De Zerbi is looking to make attacking additions before the end of the transfer window.

Tel had an opportunity to prove that he can impose himself in the starting XI this season, but he did not particularly impress - especially in the important traits such as dribbling.

Indeed, he only attempted just three dribbles in the game, and only managed to complete one of them.

Moreover, he lost possession on 12 occasions - which can happen as a winger, but only four of his 22 carries classified as progressive carries.

Two of his four crosses were successful, and he did create one big chance in fairness.

But certainly, De Zerbi will likely have wanted to see a little more in terms of influencing the game from the 21-year-old.

Mathys Tel won't have changed De Zerbi's mind

De Zerbi spoke earlier this summer about wanting a "bomba" transfer, and Spurs have been linked with several left wingers.

Tel will have done nothing here to convince De Zerbi otherwise in what was a pretty underwhelming performance in truth.

The Frenchman is still young, but there was hope he would have developed into a more influential performer for Spurs.

Right now, it is not looking especially likely that he will do, so you can understand the urgency to add reinforcement in the final third.
