Lord Alan Sugar drops Tottenham tactical conspiracy theory after loss vs Brentford
Former Tottenham Hotspur owner and supporter Lord Alan Sugar has taken a lighthearted swipe following the 3-0 defeat to Brentford.
Roberto De Zerbi's first full season has certainly not started in the way anybody would have hoped.
The Italian was effectively handed a transfer warchest this summer, with over £200million worth of signings coming through the door.
But that had little affect, with four of those new arrivals starting against Brentford at the G-tech Community Stadium.
Two first-half goals and an early strike in the second half ultimately meant that Spurs went home defeated.
But, do not worry as Lord Sugar has an interesting theory about their performance in the 3-0 loss.
What has Lord Alan Sugar said about Tottenham's performance?
There won't be many people out there with positives to take away from Tottenham's performance.
While Brentford are a tough side and were always going to be a difficult opponent, losing in that fashion was not meant to be in the script.
However, for Lord Sugar, he has taken a lighthearted swipe at Tottenham.
Taking to X, Lord Sugar has jokingly suggested losing to Brentford was always part of the plan.
He says: "To all Spurs fans don't worry this is all tactical to lure other teams into believing we are a easy touch."
Of course, while an interesting theory, so to speak, De Zerbi will be unhappy with his players.
It was not the performance you expect of a De Zerbi's team, but they will have the chance to play themselves into form quite quickly.
Why Tottenham have excellent chance to bounce back
Tottenham's next Premier League fixture could prove quite difficult.
Although we have yet to see Matthias Jaissle's Newcastle in action yet, the Geordies will have ambitions of qualifying for Europe, and after seeing Tottenham's result, they will have more confidence of getting a win.
That game is set to take place on Saturday, 29 August with Spurs playing at home.
However, before that fixture is a game against Charlton Athletic at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
That will arrive in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, 26 August, where Spurs will undoubtedly be heavy favourites.
Of course, there is always the chance of a cup upset, but De Zerbi will view this game as an opportunity to get back on track.
And go one step closer to achieving silverware.
A strong result will instantly lift the mood in N17, however a defeat could make the negative noise even louder.
An important game already in the early stages of the season for Spurs.
