Roberto De Zerbi needs to have a serious think about Dominic Solanke's Tottenham Hotspur role.

The 28-year-old is now in his third season with Tottenham, and it has the feel of being a watershed one.

After netting 16 goals and providing eight assists in his debut 2024-25 campaign, it appeared as though Spurs had struck gold.

However, with just six goals in 20 total appearances last term, the England international took a significant step backwards.

As a result, 2026-27 needs to be a campaign in which Solanke proves to fans and Spurs chiefs alike that he's still got what it takes.

But performances like the one he just put in against Everton on Saturday night will only serve to work against him in that pursuit.

Saturday night saw Solanke offered his first extended opportunity of the new term to break that scoring curse for Spurs.

Playing 63 minutes in his first league start of the season, De Zerbi moved Omar Marmoush out wide to allow Solanke to lead the line.

However, it was a night to forget for the Englishman, and speaking via talkSPORT post-match, Jamie O'Hara summed his display up perfectly.

"Solanke's miles off it," the former Tottenham midfielder said.

His 84 metres spent sprinting were the 20th-fewest of any player too, whilst he also gave away two fouls and made zero tackles.

Solanke won none of his six ground duels, was dispossessed three times, took just 20 touches and put zero shots on goal or created any chances.

For O'Hara to say he was "miles off it" is actually letting his performance off lightly, as he was a total passenger before his withdrawal.

Due to it being a Carabao Cup game, Solanke may get another chance against Liverpool on Tuesday, but a different Premier League plan is surely needed for De Zerbi.
