How Italian media reacted to Tottenham loanee Guglielmo Vicario display in Juventus vs Rennes
Tottenham Hotspur loanee Guglielmo Vicario made his eighth Juventus appearance on Thursday night.
After falling out of favour under Roberto De Zerbi, the 30-year-old goalkeeper always looked likely to leave Tottenham in the summer.
This he did, signing for Italian giants Juventus on a season-long loan deal.
Juventus do have the option to make his stay in Turin a permanent one, but that will largely depend on his performance levels.
Since moving to the Serie A outfit, Vicario has carved out a role as the number one goalkeeper at the Allianz Stadium.
His latest outing came in the Europa League on Thursday night, but how did he fare?
Did the media agree on Guglielmo Vicario's Juventus performance?
After only managing a sixth-placed finish in Serie A last season, Juventus had to settle for Europa League football this term.
They won their first two league phase games against NEC Nijmegen and Celta Vigo, ahead of their clash with Rennes on Thursday night.
That winning run to start the competition is now over, however, as the French side came to Turin and took home a point in a 2-2 draw.
Vicario started the game and played the full 90 minutes, and the media has had somewhat contrasting views on his performance.
Goal wrote: "A frustrating evening for the Italian shot-stopper.
"While he made three saves to keep Juventus in the contest, he was beaten twice in the first half, including a Boulaye Dia penalty.
"He lacked his usual commanding presence during the period of Rennes dominance before the break. Five."
Meanwhile, Italian outlet La Repubblica said: "Quick to react to (Mahamadou) Nagida's run, he came off his line fearlessly and sorted out a couple of tricky situations. 6.5."
So, what do Vicario's numbers from the game suggest about whether he was closer to a five out of 10, or a 6.5?
What was Vicario's goals prevented number vs Rennes?
Football isn't played on paper, but it can give us a strong idea of how a certain player performed in a game.
Vicario's numbers from Juventus' draw with Rennes suggest that the Tottenham loanee does indeed deserve his flowers despite conceding twice.
Per FotMob, Vicario made three total saves with two of them being from shots inside the box and one being a diving save.
He completed 15 of 19 pass attempts successfully (79 per cent), played three accurate long balls, made eight recoveries and prevented 0.35 goals.
Meanwhile, he acted as a sweeper once and made six throws too, further evidence of an overall commanding performance from Vicario.
This was a better performance from Vicario, as he has been struggling in Serie A for Juventus, and one that may be cause for growing Tottenham regret.
Indeed, his 55.6 save percentage ranks him in the bottom 11.1 per cent of all Serie A keepers, whilst his -2.04 goals prevented puts him in the lowest 22.2 per cent.
