Harry Byrne tipped for Tottenham breakthrough, 'he's one of the best passers we’ve got'
Harry Byrne can make the step up to Tottenham's first-team in the near future.
That is the verdict of Spurs expert John Wenham, who feels like the academy gem goes under the radar.
The 18-year-old has been at Hotspur Way since the age of seven, and signed his first professional deal in 2025.
He made his debut for the Under-18s in December 2023 and the Under-21 bow came in December 2024.
While the likes of Luca Williams-Barnett and Tyler Tingey get all the hype, Wenham feels like Byrne has as good as a chance as any to be promoted to the seniors.
He feels like the Irish talent has traits that Roberto De Zerbi should be keeping a close eye on.
Why has Harry Byrne been highlighted for Tottenham breakthrough?
The Lilywhite Rose account owner, who is an expert on the youth sides, thinks Byrne is right up there with anyone in the first-team for his passing ability and has backed him to make the jump.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “The reason he’s got a chance is he’s one of the best passers we’ve got of the whole club, including the first team, and secondly, he’s equally as good playing as a midfield player or as a left-back.
“His set-pieces are also very, very good.
“He’s one that goes under the radar because he isn’t sponsored by Nike and doesn’t have agents pushing him in international squads from the age of 15.
“He’s extremely good, mate, he’s at a similar level as, Williams-Barnett, Tynan Thompson who obviously left for Manchester United, Tyler Tingey, Malachi Hardy, he’s of that level but doesn’t have the media PR that some of those other players have got.”
How has Byrne performed so far this season?
Byrne has played four times in the Premier League 2 this season, and he has stood out a lot with Wayne Burnett's side.
He has notched one assist, with three chances created and an 87.5 per cent pass completion, according to FotMob data.
Defensively, he has averaged 5.24 contributions per game, with 2.16 tackles, 4.32 recoveries and 0.92 clearances.
In terms of duels, he has won 63.2 per cent on the ground and 50 per cent in the air.
