Bryan King has speculated that Tottenham could lose as much as £12.9million by selling Emerson Royal to AC Milan.

The ex-Spurs scout feels that the North London side have no choice but to let the right-back leave.

Tottenham signed Emerson from Barcelona on a five-year deal for £25.8million (via BBC Sport, 31 August 2021).

As per Fabrizio Romano via X (4 August), the Brazillian is now close to joining AC Milan, with negotiations between the two clubs at the final stages.

The £12.8million transfer, which includes add-ons, is set to be sealed in the coming days.

And King - speaking exclusively to Tottenham News - claims that AC Milan will be happy with the deal.

"Tottenham are going to be losing money on Emerson, they could lose as much as £12.9million if add-ons aren't achieved," King said.

"However, as any football manager would tell you, you don't want a player who is unhappy at your football club.

"He isn't getting regular football with Spurs and every player needs to be getting regular football. It doesn't look like he will be a regular under Ange Postecoglou.

"AC Milan are getting a half-decent player here and good luck to Emerson."

Tottenham to sell Emerson Royal to AC Milan

Emerson is clearly not suited to Postecoglou's style of football.

Therefore, with Pedro Porro already at the club, as well as the resurgence of Djed Spence during pre-season, Tottenham can afford to let the 25-year-old go.

Archie Gray is also capable of slotting in at right-back, which means Postecoglou won't be too concerned about his options in that area of the pitch.

However, Daniel Levy will no doubt be frustrated that he is losing money on the defender.
