Damning stats highlight Dominic Solanke as Tottenham's weak link
Dominic Solanke has come under fire once again at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Englishman has come under scrutiny ever since coming in from Bournemouth in 2024.
Ange Postecoglou wanted him, but things have never quite clicked.
He has often been ruled out through injury and that has limited him to just three starts this campaign.
Even when available, the 29-year-old has failed to truly cover himself in any glory for the North London outfit.
Solanke has now been highlighted for all the wrong reasons despite his equaliser against Manchester United on Saturday.
What has been said about Dominic Solanke at Tottenham?
There has been no shortage of frustration surrounding the Lilywhites this season.
That continued at Old Trafford as Roberto De Zerbi's men once again failed to make their chances count.
Their number nine was as guilty of that as anyone before he found the net late on.
Solanke has now been met with a scathing review as his N17 spell has come under fire from Daily Mail journalist Ian Ladyman.
Describing the forward as "Tottenham's weak link", he wrote: "Solanke was the one ‘oven-ready’ Premier League player Spurs bought when they were in their ‘buying for the future’ stage in the summer of 2024 but at no point has that £55m felt like money judiciously spent.
"Indeed Solanke’s season by season league goal totals – from 2017-18 onwards – read: 1,0,3,6,19,9,3,1. It’s not the outlier season for Bournemouth in 2023-24 that tells the story – it’s all the others."
That totally sums up the problem with recruitment at Spurs, but is there still hope there for the £65million-man.
How did Solanke perform vs Manchester United?
The Englishman was afforded the 90 minutes at Old Trafford and did his utmost to make it count.
He registered the most shots on the pitch with four and even covered the most ground with 12.3km.
The issue comes with the accuracy of those shots as just 50 per cent were on target, while they only clocked up 0.67 expected goals.
That saw him miss two big chances on the day while also giving away two fouls.
Losing six duels is also far from ideal and raises questions of what he brings to this Spurs side.
Solanke certainly needs to do much more for Tottenham as results continue to frustrate.
If his form doesn't take a step up in quality, he could be facing problems in the very near future.
