Brennan Johnson struggled for Tottenham again in the League Cup semi-final first-leg win against Liverpool on Wednesday.

Spurs secured a 1-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 8 January thanks to a controversial Lucas Bergvall strike on 86 minutes.

This will see Ange Postecoglou's side take a 1-0 lead into the reverse tie at Anfield but is unlikely to have faith in the Wales international for that clash based on his performance.

The 23-year-old was called on to replace Rodrigo Bentancur who was taken off early in the first half due to a serious injury.

Despite featuring across 75 minutes for the Lilywhites, the ex-Nottingham Forest man was unable to have any sort of positive impact against the Reds.

The Welshman registered just nine passes and 24 touches with just one of those coming in the opposition penalty area [FotMob] which just isn't good enough.

Going forward, Johnson did very little to impress his manager with a zero per cent dribble success rate while also failing to create a chance or register a shot on target.

It isn't as if the Welshman put in a positive defensive shift on the night against Arne Slot's side as he lost six duels and committed two fouls.

Given the options ahead of the ex-Lincoln City loanee, his performances have to hit a higher level but it is safe to say he didn't hit those heights in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final.
