Mauricio Pochettino and his Tottenham Hotspur legacy

Mauricio Pochettino brought joy to the hearts of Tottenham Hotspur supporters during his stint in North London, which lasted over five years. A star-studded cast including Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dele Alli, and Christian Eriksen came so very close to producing a real era-defining spell to the club. While trophies ultimately eluded Spurs, and the best position they had in the Premier League was second in the 2016-17 campaign, the ‘Poch’ era will always be remembered extremely fondly by supporters.

So near and yet so far for Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham Hotspur

Pochettino remains one of the most popular Tottenham managers of all time, even accounting for the fact he would later take charge of rivals Chelsea. The Argentine put together a thrilling Spurs team, playing an exciting brand of football. However, he could not quite deliver silverware to Hotspur Way. He came agonisingly close to delivering the Champions League, but a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in the final of the 2018-19 edition broke Spurs hearts, and was really the beginning of the end of his tenure. He would also earn a runners-up medal in the 2015 EFL Cup final.
