Why Joe Lewis took his sweet time with Thomas Frank sack as Tottenham expenses broken down
Joe Lewis may need to be shown some extra compassion at Tottenham after sacking Thomas Frank, because let’s not forget, it was Daniel Levy who brought the head coach to N17.
Spurs announced their decision to part ways with the Dane on Wednesday following a damaging 2-1 defeat to Newcastle in the Premier League.
Levy pushed for Frank‘s hire in the summer and had to pay Brentford a large sum of money in compensation to acquire his services at Tottenham.
Not only that, but Levy then fled, maybe after he realised he made the wrong decision, as Lewis now has to pick up all of the broken pieces.
Worst of all, Lewis and ENIC will also have to now pay up Frank’s extortionate salary.

Thomas Frank could cost Tottenham £30m in total, with wages left to pay
The loss has left Spurs in 16th place on 29 points, as it doesn’t get any easier with Arsenal next up in the league.
Many suggested that Lewis took far too long sacking Frank, with the Lilywhites now genuinely looking like they are in a relegation battle.
However, one of the reasons why he will have wanted the Dane to turn things around is because of the financial repercussions that Tottenham now face from his departure.
- Tottenham paid £6.7million compensation to Brentford for Frank and his staff
- He signed a three-and-a-half-year deal that ran until the summer of 2028
According to The Sun, Frank’s deal is worth £24million over the three years, as Lewis and ENIC may be forced to pay the remaining £18million.
So in total, Levy spent around £30.7million for the ex-Brentford boss, who has brought nothing but harm to the Lilywhites.
It’s glaringly obvious to see that Lewis was hesitant to pull the trigger on him for this reason, and he cannot be solely blamed for the appointment.
What’s happening with Frank’s backroom staff?
Tottenham‘s official statement on Wednesday thanked Frank for his efforts and wished him well in his future endeavours, but didn’t confirm the future of his backroom staff.
The £6.7million that the Lilywhites spent on the 52-year-old was also for his staff, and they too will be getting big amounts.
There could be some thinking behind the scenes that the new interim boss could still work with Frank’s team, but time will tell.
Either way, Lewis and ENIC have been slightly done over with the finances of a deal that Levy himself pushed for, but they are not excused for the direction that the club is going in.
