Tottenham sneak out multi-million financial document before kick-off v Arsenal
Tottenham fans have every right to fume after developments on and off the pitch on Wednesday.
Ange Postecoglou’s side suffered their 11th Premier League defeat of the season as they lost 2-1 to Arsenal in the North London derby at the Emirates on 15 January, with Emmanuel Adebayor shocked by one controversial moment in the match.
It was yet another night to forget for Postecoglou’s side, with one player expected to demand a Tottenham exit after what happened against the Gunners.
However, for those supporters who left the Emirates thinking their night couldn’t get any worse, they were quickly proven wrong.
As per Football London (15 January), Tottenham confirmed via Companies House on Wednesday that ENIC had increased their holding in Spurs ever so slightly with a capital share allotment of £11.7million.
And as per slbsn on X (15 January), an email confirming the news was sent out just minutes ahead of kick-off at the Emirates, with the person behind the account writing, “Funny timing. Wonder if anyone is distracted”.

As a result of the allotment of shares – which took place on 31 December 2024 – the percentage of ENIC’s ownership has increased by 0.33 per cent.
While this doesn’t seem like much, considering ENIC and Daniel Levy’s unpopularity among Spurs supporters, any increase in ownership is going to be met with frustration and disappointment.
However, what is perhaps most interesting about the whole situation is that the timing of Spurs’ email is a clear sign that ENIC and Levy are well aware of how they are viewed among supporters.
While there is no guarantee that Spurs chose for this news to break minutes before a North London derby, it does seem like a very unlikely coincidence.
Therefore, if the club did choose to make this information public at the exact moment when all their supporters would be busy focusing on one of their biggest games of the season, it is a clear sign that they wanted as little attention to be brought to the news as possible.
And that can only demonstrate that they knew the news wouldn’t be received well.

However, this ended up backfiring, as Spurs were beaten by Arsenal, which would have only made fans even angrier when they read that ENIC and Levy are here to stay.
In other Tottenham news, Tim Sherwood and Adebayor have issued a Postecoglou sack claim.
