Tottenham are said to have made a £20million bid for Burnley defender Maxim Esteve but the Clarets have demanded £30m, according to Loic Tanzi.

The L'Equipe journalist reported via X (3 February) that Spurs have made an official bid to sign Esteve from the Championship side as they look to bolster their defensive options ahead of the 11pm deadline.

Spurs have already added to their defensive lineup with the recent signing of Kevin Danso but remain keen to add further reinforcements.

Burnley have reportedly rejected the offer of £20m, with the promotion chasers demanding an additional £10m to enter negotiations.

Tottenham are getting desperate, time is running out

Having seen a remarkable £70m bid for Marc Guehi [Ed Aarons] reportedly rejected earlier in the day, Spurs have seemingly turned their attention elsewhere with Esteve identified as a target.

The centre-back has excelled in the Championship and contributed to their mind-blowing record of having conceded just nine goals all season.

With that in mind, it's hard to see Burnley sanctioning his exit, regardless of the money put on the table by Spurs but they may change that stance if an offer is made that is deemed too good to turn down.

However, the longer the day goes on, the less likely Burnley will be able to secure a replacement which in turn makes any transfer to Tottenham seem unlikely.

It could be one to keep an eye on with hours remaining until the window slams shut.
