Levy faces double pay-off for Postecoglou in bad Tottenham finance news

Daniel Levy had landed himself in hot water as Ange Postecoglou is in line for a double pay-off at Tottenham.

Spurs are in for a few big weeks, with the UEFA Europa League final against Manchester United at San Mames coming up on Wednesday (21 May).

Levy then has to make a decision regarding Postecoglou, who is facing the prospect of being sacked as the Tottenham manager, whether or not he leads them to glory in Europe.

Should the North London giants emerge victorious against Ruben Amorim’s side, the 59-year-old could become the first manager to lead them to a European trophy in 41 years.

Tottenham face financial losses as Postecoglou in win-win situation

Postecoglou is in line to receive a sum of around £2million in bonuses if he leads Tottenham to Europa League glory, according to The Telegraph.

If things go wrong in Bilbao and Levy is forced to bring the hammer down on the former Celtic boss, he still stands to gain financially, as Spurs would have to pay him a compensation fee.

As Postecoglou is contracted to the Premier League club until 2027, they would have to pay him off for breaking the deal prematurely.

Alternatively, ENIC would have to pay the manager £2m as a bonus and then a compensation fee if they decide to sack him, even if he emerges victorious in the Europa League final.

This is a real possibility, as there have been claims that winning the Europa League may not be enough for Postecoglou to avoid being sacked at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, that would weigh heavily on Spurs’ pockets, as it means they would have to pay the Greek-Australian manager a hefty amount of money.

Spurs to lose £5m after Europa League triumph

Apart from Postecoglou’s bonus, Tottenham would also have to provide £3m for the players to share between them if they win against Manchester United.

That means winning the Europa League could prove to be an expensive matter for Spurs, especially if they also sack Postecoglou after that.

Therefore, Levy has been caught in a difficult situation, where he is certain to lose money regardless of what happens at San Mames.
