Joe Lewis will be licking lips as Tottenham set to benefit from £750m Premier League sales overhaul

The Premier League may receive a £750million annual revenue boost which would benefit all 20 clubs.

According to a report from Sky News on Friday, Tottenham and every other Premier League club was informed this week that the Premier League is considering changes to aspects of its commercial strategy.

It’s stated that an annual revenue boost of around £750m could be achieved through selling 60 per cent of perimeter advertising sales in a centralised way, as well as increasing the amount of top commercial partners associated with the league.

However, at this stage, it’s understood that this proposed new approach remains at an ‘explanatory’ stage, and there isn’t yet any concrete plans to move forward with this.

Why Joe Lewis and Tottenham will surely be in favour of this

Tottenham fans have been highly critical of club ownership down the years, both during the Daniel Levy era, and into Joe Lewis and ENIC‘s tenureship in charge.

Spurs are a big football club, both in history and fanbase, as well as boasting some of the best infrastructure in terms of the stadium and training facilities they have that you’ll find anywhere in world football.

However, supporters have often bemoaned the lack of financial investment into the playing squad by way of transfers, which was highlighted again in this season’s winter window in particular.

And, there’s a clear reason why Lewis will surely be in favour of any boost to revenues and possible new streams of income opened up by the Premier League.

As detailed by football finance expert Kieran Maguire in January of this year, Tottenham were revealed to be the most profitable Premier League club since the league’s inception in 1992.

The graph shows that Spurs are recording a pre-tax profit of £183.2m since then, with bitter North London rivals Arsenal being their closest competitors with £132.4m.

Tottenham are in grave danger of undoing top profits work

So, this is yet another reason as to why Tottenham simply can’t afford to suffer an unthinkable relegation to the Championship this season.

It goes without saying that the financial differences between playing Premier League and second tier football are huge, and as well as that, key assets will likely see their transfer values drop as a result.

On top of that, Spurs have been going through a fair few managers in recent times, with compensation fees required to pay-off sacked bosses such as Thomas Frank and Ange Postecoglou respectively.

Therefore, it’s perhaps fair to say that Tottenham have never been in greater danger of falling down that Premier League profit table than what they’re in right now.
