In the Money: Table-topping Tottenham stat examined as £209m wage bill revealed
The wage bill at Tottenham is the lowest in the Premier League in relation to their annual revenue.
Spurs revealed a wage bill of £209million in their latest 2021/22 accounts – a figure which had only increased by four percent from the year prior.
However, the North London side recorded a 22 percent increase in overall revenue to £444million.

That means Tottenham only spend 47 percent of their annual turnover on staff wages – the lowest percentage in the Premier League for the 2021/22 season.
Brentford follow closely behind, with the Bees’ £68million wage bill just 48 percent of their £141million revenue.
In contrast, Everton and Newcastle United spent north of 90 per cent of their overall revenue on wages.
Tottenham’s table-topping stat shows just how frugal the club’s board is when it comes to wage control.
Spurs’ turnover was helped by record-breaking matchday revenue figures of £106million, while the club received £144million in broadcast payments and £183million from commercial deals.
However, the boost in revenue didn’t translate to more investment in the first-team squad, with Tottenham’s 2021/22 transfers coming in at a net cost of £53million.

Tottenham’s revenue for the upcoming 2022/23 accounts is expected to increase beyond the £444million mark due to the club’s participation in the Champions League.
The wage bill is also likely to grow following the arrivals of Richarlison, Cristian Romero and Yves Bissouma, but overall Tottenham are on track for another impressive wage-to-revenue percentage in their next set of accounts.
