How much compensation Tottenham will claim from Manchester City revealed

Tottenham could be set to claim an eye-watering amount from Manchester City.

The Citizens were found guilty of 114 of the 115 charges levelled against them, according to the leaked independent commission verdict.

The official verdict has not been released yet, but sanctions are expected to be decided in the next few weeks.

However, legal action could also follow, with rivals looking for damages as a result of City's rule breaches.

Spurs are among four Premier League clubs who have reserved their right to seek compensation, alongside Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Now, the sum that Roberto De Zerbi's side may end up getting from the Etihad Stadium side has been named.

What is the amount that Tottenham could be entitled to?

The Lilywhites side, including the likes of Kyle Walker, Gareth Bale and Jermain Defoe, missed out on Champions League football between 2011 and 2013, when City won the league and then finished second.

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire believes Spurs could claim in the region of £43million, as a result of missing out on Europe's top competition.

Speaking to the i News, he said: "“Some clubs who finished fifth will be looking at a minimum of £42.96m claim for loss of prize money.

"Then you could legitimately say that instead of hosting Bayern Munich or Real Madrid on a Wednesday night, we ended up hosting the second-best team in Denmark on a Thursday night, so our gate receipts were down. Bonuses from sponsors are down too.

"All of that goes into the claims."

That would be a nice boost to their coffers, but it is more about the principle more than anything.

It will never bring back the possibilities that the North London side could have reached, but it will at least provide some closure.

Why Tottenham should not be getting excited about City claim

Anyone involved with Spurs should not be getting their hopes up about a financial windfall anytime soon.

Khaldoon Al Mubarak, City's chairman, is still confident in his club's innocence and insists that nothing has changed.

Even if the verdict is confirmed and his confidence is misplaced, they will likely fight it with an appeal, which will only take more time.

The chase for potential compensation could take many years, as the initial process has already dragged on for ages after City were charged in February 2023.

Then it is the matter of determining the exact amount that the N17 outfit and others are due, if the appeal decides the same fate as the initial verdict.

That will likely take time, as there will be so many clubs who want a piece of the pie, and City will try to fight each claim.
