ENIC face half-a-billion Tottenham embarrassment as investor reveals scary truth
Tottenham’s Europa League final with Manchester United holds a lot more value than just a trophy to bring back to North London.
17 years have passed since Tottenham last won a major trophy, and Ange Postecoglou will be keen to be the man to end that run this Wednesday when Spurs face Man United in the Europa League final.
There is a lot on the line for Spurs: European football, pride, but perhaps most importantly, a massive financial boost.
If Tottenham can win the Europa League, they will qualify for next season’s Champions League, which will aid them financially when it comes to addressing the mess in North London.

Europa League success is a must for Tottenham
A failure to win the Europa League will see Tottenham’s recruitment plans thrown out of the window this summer, but will also see them miss out on significant income.
Qualifying for the Champions League would see Spurs bank upwards of £100million through broadcasting and match-day revenue, though missing out on that will prove costly.
Tottenham are one of the highest revenue-generating clubs within Europe, with an income of £528m reported at the end of last season [Bloomberg].
Should they win the Europa League, that revenue could increase by a further £100m, but if they lose, it will be damaging for their books.
Teams | Wins | Draws | Losses |
Tottenham | 9 | 3 | 2 |
Manchester United | 9 | 5 | 0 |
The report from Bloomberg (20 May) states that the club’s equity value is hovering between £2-2.5 billion, which is a huge differential in itself.
However, that is the difference they face depending on the outcome of the Europa League final on Wednesday, according to an investor who has looked into buying the club.
A £500m differential would be embarrassing for ENIC, who will be aware of the magnitude of this upcoming game.

Postecoglou has no excuse not to win a trophy at Tottenham
If Postecoglou wants his time at Tottenham to be even considered as a positive, he simply has to win the Europa League.
Aside from the recent blow to Lucas Bergvall, the Spurs boss has options when it comes to team selection, and he will be afforded no excuse if they don’t bring the trophy home.
Man United will be just as keen to end their dismal campaign with a trophy, showcasing how intense this encounter is likely to be.
