Amanda Staveley makes Tottenham investment admission after Newcastle United exit
Amanda Staveley has admitted it is “possible” she and Mehrdad Ghodoussi will invest in another Premier League club amid links to Tottenham.
The Athletic reported on 23 October that the former Newcastle United chiefs may already have non-disclosure agreements in place as they look to complete their acquisition of a minority stake at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Things have gone quiet over the past month or so, but Daily Mail journalist Ian Ladyman reported on 21 December that Staveley is still interested in doing business after holding talks with chairman Daniel Levy.
And Staveley, while falling short of confirming those talks in a new interview with The Athletic [31 December], has suggested she is open to taking on a stake at another English top-flight club.
Asked specifically about the Tottenham rumours, and what she can say about it, Staveley said: “Not much, I’m afraid.
“My preference would have been to stay with Newcastle, but life doesn’t always work out exactly how you want it to. Nothing is going to replicate that.
“Mehrdad and I are keen to be hands-on. We’re hard-working people, I love to be very busy and to engage and I love football.
“Very sadly, we have to move on to other projects and that might involve us taking a stake in another club or buying another club and that’s difficult. But it’s possible.”
Daniel Levy may have his Amanda Staveley takeover answer at Tottenham
There have been suggestions that Staveley could walk away from a deal with Tottenham, but this interview is pretty telling.
Staveley did not deny having conversations with Levy, and given her clear eagerness to get back involved at a club, it may well be that Spurs are the natural landing spot.
Levy and the ENIC Group have invested a total of £194million in the club since they took the reigns in 2001 [The Athletic, 18 November].
For all the criticism – much of it justified – that is an awful lot of money and ultimately little reward all things considered.
Some £94m of that fee went towards buying the club, while the other £100m or so of the owners’ funding has gone into the club.
£100m over those 23 years is a very small figure on that basis, and any extra investment would very much be welcomed.
Amanda Staveley net worth
It has been reported by ITV Sport [10 July] that Staveley’s own net worth is in the region of £110m, while Ghodoussi’s worth is likely to be even higher.

Beyond that money, Staveley also holds plenty of sway in the football industry and beyond, as seen most recently at Newcastle and also at Manchester City.
With Staveley admitting she wants to invest in a Premier League club, Levy would be silly not to take these talks to the next level. Any further investment into Spurs can only be a positive.
