Fantasy Watch View: Van de Ven makes case for Spurs defence, Bissouma scores low

Fantasy Football fans would have loved having Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven in their teams this week…Yves Bissouma, not so much.

Spurs battled to a 1-0 victory over strugglers Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Saturday (7 October) courtesy of Van de Ven’s second-half winner in a match where Bissouma was sent off.

It means Ange Postecoglou’s side, who are unbeaten in the top flight, headed into the international break top of the Premier League – albeit only on goals scored ahead of North London rivals Arsenal.

If you too want to be top of the league – albeit in the land of fantasy – here’s who impressed and who didn’t for Spurs as you make judgements for your teams. All fantasy numbers are taken from the Premier League’s official Fantasy game.

Van de Ven doesn’t take the Micky

It was a superb moment for Netherlands centre-back Van de Ven, who cleverly applied a left-foot finish from James Maddison’s excellent cut-back in the 52nd minute.

While that proved a literal match-winning contribution, Van de Ven was just as effective in his defensive duties, making two tackles, one block, one clearance and winning each of his four duels (data from SofaScore).

He also had a pass completion rate of 94 per cent in a brilliant all-round performance that saw him top score among Tottenham players with 15 points.

Centre-back partner Cristian Romero tallied eight, while goalkeeper Gigliuermo Vicario picked up seven in a strong week for Spurs’ defensive options.

Why Yves?

Anyone who had Bissouma in their team this week would have been cursing their screens at his complete lack of judgement.

Bissouma has been an excellent performer for Spurs under Postecoglou but just had a moment to forget at Kenilworth Road, receiving a second booking for simulation on the stroke of half-time having already been booked.

It meant that Bissouma finished with -2 points, and he is now also missing for Tottenham when they host Fulham on Monday 23 October after the international break.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg failed to score, while Richarlison – whom the Dane replaced ahead of the second half – managed just a solitary point.

In other Tottenham news, John Wenham is unhappy Alejo Veliz has jumped the queue at Spurs.
