Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson must start against Wolves – Chadder View
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou must start Brennan Johnson against Wolves on Saturday 17 February.
I am desperate for Johnson to be a success in North London.
Following his mega-money move from Nottingham Forest last summer, things have been tough for the 22-year-old and in my opinion, some supporters have been too harsh on the forward.
He was the main man at Forest, his boyhood club, and moving to a new city and new team at such a young age can be difficult at first.
If it wasn’t for the amount of money paid to bring him in, I don’t think many supporters would be questioning Johnson’s credentials.
He has three goals and four assists in 18 Premier League appearances for Spurs, with a number of those appearances coming off the bench. That is not a bad return by any stretch of the imagination.
It confuses me why fans are so concerned with how much we paid for him. Yes, it was a lot of money, but it was clearly money spent on a player who the club hope will make an impact in the long run, not the short-term.
He has potential, and he can be a hit at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but only if fans offer him time, and I believe that he should start against Wolves this weekend.
Tottenham ace Johnson can build momentum
There is no doubt that Johnson will have noticed the criticism coming his way.
In this day and age, footballers can see everything across social media, and I did wonder if that is why his celebration was so muted after he netted a dramatic last-gasp winner in the 2-1 victory against Brighton on Saturday 10 February.
If that is the case, then that is a great shame, and supporters should have a long hard think about how they are treating one of their own players.
Ange Postecoglou dropped the forward for the Brighton clash, but Johnson ended up having the last laugh and he should be given the opportunity to build some momentum by starting against Wolves on Saturday.
Timo Werner has hardly set the place on fire since arriving on loan from RB Leipzig and hasn’t justified starting over Johnson.
Whether it is on the right or left, Postecoglou should involve the Wales international in some capacity against Gary O’Neil’s side.

Dropping him after a goalscoring cameo display would be a sign that the Australian doesn’t trust him, and that is the last thing Johnson needs right now.
This could be a real turning point in his Tottenham career, and Postecoglou must ensure that he doesn’t take two steps backwards with the youngster’s progress after one big step forward against Brighton.
