Tottenham fans want Son Heung-min replaced as captain after footage emerges
Tottenham fans are calling for one player to take Son Heung-min’s place as captain after the win over Manchester United.
Ange Postecoglou’s side beat the Red Devils 1-0 in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (16 February), as match-winner James Maddison stole the headlines.
While the returning midfielder shone in North London, Son Heung-min struggled against Ruben Amorim’s side. As a result, fans have called for the Tottenham captain to be axed.
However, some supporters have taken that criticism a step further and suggested he should be replaced as captain, with a potential candidate in mind to take the armband from the South Korean.
Son Heung-min to be replaced as Tottenham captain?
Maddison was one of several players to return from injury against United, with fellow outfield players Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert both making late cameos on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Guglielmo Vicario was back between the sticks, with Antonín Kinský making way for the Italian after recent criticism.
Vicario impressed with his performance, keeping a rare clean sheet. In addition, he finished the match with the armband after Son and Maddison had both been substituted.
And after Tottenham shared footage via X (16 February) of the goalkeeper celebrating passionately at full-time, fans have called for the shot-stopper to take Son’s place as captain permanently.
Guglielmo Vicario to replace Son Heung-min as captain at Tottenham?
Spurs supporters will be glad to have Vicario back between the sticks in North London as they look to finish what has been an incredibly underwhelming season on a high.
The 28-year-old will no doubt have a big part to play as Postecoglou’s side look to lift the UEFA Europa League, which is all the club really have left to play for this season.
However, further down the line, if Son is to leave this summer, it looks as though Tottenham could have their next captain lined up.

Therefore, Postecoglou would be wise to give Vicario more opportunities to show his qualities as captain when Son isn’t on the pitch this season.
However, in terms of stripping the 32-year-old of the captaincy altogether, that seems unlikely.
