Tottenham fans tell Daniel Levy to ‘shut up’ as ex-chairman’s new claim doesn’t stack up

Tottenham Hotspur supporters are simply not buying Daniel Levy’s suggestion that he never saw Spurs’ current predicament coming.

Levy departed his role as Tottenham chairman in September – a position he had held for nearly 25 years.

Spurs enjoyed some highs across that period, including silverware in the EFL Cup and Europa League, but there were also plenty of bad times.

Nothing has been quite as bad as this season, however, with Spurs still at serious threat of being relegated from the Premier League.

Levy has now spoken publicly about Tottenham’s predicament for the first time after receiving his CBE on Wednesday.

Daniel Levy decisions still being felt at Tottenham

Levy may have left at the start of the season, but the building blocks of this disastrous campaign were laid by him.

Appointing Thomas Frank was done on Levy’s watch, and we all know how that turned out. Recruiting players who are simply not good enough also came under Levy’s watch.

This was clearly not lost on supporters on social media as the reacted to Levy’s interview with various outlets.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Levy said: “Nobody envisioned this at the start of the season. Let’s look forward and hope next season they’re still in the Premier League. I’m optimistic they’ll get through it.”

In a separate interview with BBC Sport, Levy said “never in a million years” did he expect Tottenham to be in the position they are in.

However, as one disgruntled fan pointed out via X: “So just because he now feels pity for the situation we find ourselves in, it means that he was never the problem? I strongly disagree.”

This sentiment was echoed by many, with one even telling him to “shut up”.

“He is the reason we’re in this mess,” another added.

Levy quite simply deluded with Tottenham comments

Some were quick to defend Levy – it’s funny how quickly things change – given he likely would have sacked Frank and even Igor Tudor sooner.

However, it must be remembered that this season is very much par for the course for Tottenham on the back of last season.

Spurs stat

Levy saw this exact situation last season, albeit the sides in the bottom three were much, much weaker then.

That is the only difference. Tottenham have been made to pay for taking their eye off the ball and lacking any sort of ambition.

If they go down, Levy must also shoulder some of the blame.
