Tottenham fans rage at ‘Pathetic’ BBC jibe – ‘They hate us’

Tottenham supporters are furious with the BBC after an unnecessary jibe was made on Saturday.

Former Spurs defender Japhet Tanganga was involved in the FA Cup clash between Crystal Palace and Millwall (1 March).

The ex-Lilywhites star scored an own goal to give the Premier League outfit the lead in a 3-1 win for Palace and the broadcasting organisation could not resist taking a swipe at the North London club.

Tottenham subject to brutal BBC joke

In the BBC live coverage blog of the match, after Tanganga scored an own goal, an update said: “You can take the lad out of Tottenham but…”

This was a reference to the popular saying, you can take the man out of [insert place], but you can’t take the place out of the man.

It was a totally uncalled for dig at Ange Postecoglou‘s side in a match that they were not involved in and Spurs supporters did not think it was very funny.

Spurs supporters don’t see the funny side of BBC jibe

It is safe to say that Lilywhites supporters failed to see the funny side of the jibe and that is fully justified.

Fans are sick to death of seeing their club mocked in the media, for example, when Simon Jordan was given a community note on X for a factually incorrect tweet about Tottenham.

Constantly hearing and seeing uninformed pundits making up lies and unprofessional jibes from respected media outlets about the club is extremely frustrating.

There is a simple solution though, start winning more matches on the pitch, if Spurs were in good form and winning trophies, these silly digs would disappear.

Daniel Levy needs to back Postecoglou in the summer transfer market, so he can attempt to turn the club’s fortunes around and force the media to respect them.

The longer the North London outfit struggles and makes a mockery of themselves, the longer supporters will be forced to hear and see cruel jokes.

They could start by finishing the season strongly and reaching the Europa League final, putting themselves in a position to leave the detractors looking silly.
