Tottenham fans rage at latest Jamie Donley developments – ‘Pure stupidity’
Tottenham gem Jamie Donley has joined Oxford United on loan, but the move has left many fans furious.
Donley was recalled by Tottenham after an unprofitable spell at Stoke City, where he managed just four Championship matches and no goals.
He has linked up with Will Lankshear at the Kassam Stadium, and will hopefully play a huge role in trying to keep the U’s in the division.
However, the terms of the loan have left some Tottenham Hotspur Stadium supporters feeling extremely angry.
Why are Tottenham fans livid with Jamie Donley move?
Donley is one of the best young talents at Tottenham, notching eight goals and 10 assists last season on loan with Leyton Orient.
Tottenham have included a £4.5million buy option in the deal, which has left supporters sweating over whether Donley‘s future remains in North London in the long-term.
Some see him as an option for Thomas Frank in the number 10 role, which he had to utilise Archie Gray in the 0-0 draw against Brentford, to very little success.
What are supporters saying over Donley option?
Supporters have not taken the fact that there is an option in the loan for the 20-year-old very well, despite the fact that the Lilywhites think it will be hard for the Championship club to reach that amount.
One fan took to X on 2 January, claiming that: “If we sell this bloke it’s a massive mistake.”
Another said: “OPTION TO BUY?!”
The move was criticised by another supporter, who said: “With an option! That is mad!!!”
Ultimately, if they pay the amount, then Spurs clearly feel like he is worth allowing to leave, despite what their fans think.
That is a problem for young footballers trying to break through, often they are not given the opportunity and are just seen as pawns in the transfer game.
Donley seems to be the latest victim, and perhaps we will never get to see whether he is good enough to break into the team in N17, and forge his path as a Lilywhites player.
The fact that the club would put the option there, suggests that they don’t mind if they lose him, but it has clearly baffled the fanbase, as they rate him highly.
