Tottenham fans in awe at latest Oliver Skipp scenes – ‘What on earth’

Tottenham supporters have been left stunned after former player Oliver Skipp scored a stunning goal in the FA Cup.

Skipp spent 16 years with the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium outfit before moving to Leicester in 2024 for regular first-team football.

The former Hotspur Way graduate notched a 52nd-minute equaliser with an overhead kick for the Foxes against Southampton on 15 February.

His side ended up on the losing side after James Bree scored in extra time at St Mary’s, but his strike has gone viral on social media after the game.

What are Tottenham fans saying about Skipp’s goal?

Given that he spent so long with their club, and the fact that the goal has gone viral, Tottenham fans are reacting to the effort from their former player.

Most could not believe that the 25-year-old had that in his locker, after witnessing him in the flesh for the first team in North London and not being too impressed with what they had seen.

One fan was blown away by the effort, saying: “I’m sorry WHO scored an overhead kick??”

Another said: “What could have been for Skipp at Spurs.”

One supporter said: “Oliver Skipp did WHAT?”

Where did it all go wrong for Skipp at Tottenham?

Skipp was unfortunate as he could never really make an impression on several first-team bosses at Spurs, not enough to become a regular anyway.

He ended up making 106 appearances for his boyhood club, which is not to be scoffed at, scoring one goal and notching two assists in his time with the senior side in N17.

Ultimately, though, he was too inconsistent and injury issues did not help his case, and an exit was probably the best outcome for all parties in the end.

The likes of Rodrigo Bentancur, Lucas Bergvall and Conor Gallagher are far superior to Skipp, so the Lilywhites will have no regrets about letting him leave.

He is now playing often, and they have better options, so it worked out positively for all involved in the deal.

Some supporters may be clamouring for him back after his wondergoal in the cup, but he does not score enough, and it was a rare strike for the former England Under-21 ace.

He is not the standard that Spurs need to get back to where they want to be, challenging for the elite honours.
