Tottenham fans clear on what should happen with Dele Alli now after ‘unreal’ announcement

Dele Alli is returning to Tottenham as a guest for the North London derby.

The former Spurs man is a huge fan favourite, and the announcement of Alli’s return has been picking up plenty of traction online.

Alli has had a tough few years in football, with the 29-year-old struggling to recapture the form he once found for the Lilywhites.

Off-the-pitch issues and injuries have not helped, but Tottenham supporters wish nothing but the best for their former star.

Now, those same fans have been taking to social media, reacting to the news of Alli’s return ahead of facing Arsenal.

What have Tottenham fans been saying about Dele Alli?

Sunday is one of Spurs’ biggest games of the season, and with the threat of relegation alongside the possibility of ruining Arsenal’s title hopes, there is quite a lot riding on the game.

To pump up fans even more, Spurs have made the smart decision of inviting Alli back as a special guest at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It is a decision that has been exciting fans online, with one stating on X: “The [Alli] chant is about to go double platinum in the ground. Unreal.”

However, that is not all the Lilywhites faithful have been saying, with plenty querying if Alli is available to play.

Other supporters have begged the question of if a proper return to Spurs could be on the cards for Alli for the rest of the season.

Alli is currently a free agent after he was released from his contract with Serie A side Como back in September. He has played just one game of football since March 2025.

So while the comments may be in jest, Alli is likely unready to return to the level of intensity required.

Tottenham should follow in Arsenal’s footsteps

Ahead of the North London derby, the last thing Spurs fans need to hear is for their club to be more like Arsenal, but in this case, it may be warranted.

Over the last few months, as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain sought a new club, Arsenal allowed their former player to train alongside the first team to build up fitness.

That worked tremendously for the Englishman, who has since secured a six-month deal at Celtic.

Tottenham could provide Alli with the same treatment for the rest of the season to allow him to prepare for a move in the summer. It would be an incredible gesture by ENIC, and one that would go down well with fans.

Alli has had a tough few years, and helping out a player who gave so much to Tottenham over the years seems like a win-win scenario.
