Tottenham fans buzzing after Mauricio Pochettino return news – ‘We are so back’

Tottenham fans are getting excited at the prospect of a Mauricio Pochettino return.

Just over half a year after being appointed, Tottenham boss Thomas Frank is at risk of being sacked amid a poor Premier League season.

Outgoing Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner is a strong candidate to succeed Frank at Tottenham, although Spurs’ Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund in midweek will have given him more time to put things right.

If he is dismissed, former Tottenham player Robbie Keane is also in the running, with the Irishman currently impressing at Hungarian outfit Ferencvaros.

For years, though, Tottenham fans have called for the return of United States national team boss Pochettino, and now an intriguing update has occurred that has turned that zeal up to 11.

Mauricio Pochettino would be open to Tottenham return

Pochettino joined Tottenham from Southampton in 2014 and had a successful stint in north London during his five-and-a-half-year stay.

He led them to the Champions League final and turned them into a side that regularly challenged for the top four.

Last March, the former Chelsea manager confirmed he would like to return to Tottenham “one day”, although he is currently focusing on leading the United States at the 2026 World Cup in North America.

However, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, Pochettino is now ‘very open’ to a Tottenham return.

This led to dozens of Tottenham fans to take to social media, expressing their glee at this development.

One Tottenham fan tweeted: “I am very open to Poch returning to Tottenham. Can’t wait,” while another wrote: “We are so back.”

However, not everyone was that enamoured by these reports, with some saying that it is never a good idea to go back to a former manager.

Moreover, one Tottenham fan wrote on X that Pochettino’s exit was “seven years ago, things have changed,” while another tweeted, “If we cannot get Xavi, we have to get Poch back.”

Would it be a mistake for Tottenham to go for Pochettino?

Pochettino is fondly remembered by Tottenham fans after taking them closer than ever before to challenging for the Premier League title.

While Ange Postecoglou finally ended their 17-year wait for a trophy, with their Europa League triumph last year, Pochettino brought sustained success – albeit without any silverware.

Since then, he has had solid if unspectacular spells at Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and the United States.

As Tottenham fans point out, back in 2019, Pochettino had Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min, Christian Eriksen, and more. He no longer has that calibre of player, as Spurs slide down the Premier League table.

It is rare for a returning manager to do better in their second spell at a club but it seems Tottenham fans are eager to take that risk with Pochettino.
