Tottenham and Arsenal fans all agree over controversy v PSG – ‘Laughable’

Tottenham supporters have criticised a decision that went against Arsenal in the 2-1 Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain.

The Spurs faithful will be ecstatic after their arch-rivals were eliminated from Europe’s elite competition after a 3-1 aggregate loss to the Parisians.

The result means that the Gunners will end the season without a trophy and the Lilywhites could be more successful than their North London rivals if they win the Europa League.

However, fans have shown sympathy for Mikel Arteta‘s side after a VAR intervention in the clash at the Parc des Princes (7 May).

Arsenal involved in harsh VAR decision

The Gunners were 1-0 down in the contest and therefore 2-0 down on aggregate when Luis Enrique’s side were awarded a penalty.

Myles Lewis-Skelly was judged to have handled the ball with his arm in an unnatural position and it looked like the Emirates Stadium outfit would be on the path to elimination.

However, David Raya saved the spot kick from Vitinha and the decision ultimately did not matter much in the end result.

Tottenham supporters back Arsenal in surprising twist

The decision was controversial, as there was no threat to the goal when the ball came towards the Arsenal man.

Many Spurs supporters stuck up for their rivals, claiming that it was not a penalty and criticising the decision that went the Parisians’ way.

Ultimately though, the Lilywhites support will be very happy that their local rivals cannot win the biggest prize in club football.

It could be even sweeter if Ange Postecoglou‘s side can secure victory in Europe’s second-rate competition.

They have one foot in the final after the 3-1 win over Bodo/Glimt on 1 May and just have to see the tie out on 8 May to secure a berth in the Bilbao showcase.

They are likely to meet Manchester United in the final if they do, a team which they have beaten three times already this season, so there will be a lot of confidence that they can end the 17-year trophy drought.

If Postecoglou can secure bragging rights over Arsenal, Daniel Levy may be forced to keep him in the dugout.
