Tottenham accused of ‘doing an Arsenal’ over official announcement

Tottenham crashed back down to earth with a 2-0 defeat against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou’s men had something rare to smile about during the week, as they beat Bodo/Glimt 5-1 on aggregate to progress to the final of the Europa League.

Domestic form has been way off those levels for the Lilywhites, though, as they now sit 17th in the Premier League table, just one spot above the relegation zone.

Tottenham face accusations over attendance announcement

After a successful time out in Norway during the week, Spurs could not replicate anything similar on home turf against Crystal Palace.

It was an incredibly dominant performance for the visiting side, who were all over Tottenham.

Postecoglou can’t even pretend as though he is prioritising the Europa League, either, as the side he put out was strong on paper.

According to journalist Alasdair Gold (11 May), the reported attendance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday was 60,254.

However, supporters were quick to hit back at this and accuse their club of “doing an Arsenal” by inflating the number of actual supporters who were inside the stadium.

Postecoglou has to be finished at Tottenham

The Europa League is still all to play for and a win would guarantee Champions League football for next season.

However, this cannot be enough to save Postecoglou anymore, given how poorly his side is performing on a regular basis.

Given Daniel Levy parted ways with Jose Mourinho the week before a major final, when the Lilywhites were in a much stronger position, the chief has shown he is able to be brutal and now is a time to do the same.

The boss has been adamant that he always wins a trophy in his second season with a club and if he achieves that, he deserves credit for ending the years-long wait for silverware in north London.

However, that reward cannot be overseeing the summer transfer window, as he has made it clear he is not good enough to take his side forward.

No one inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will think that a 17th-placed finish is good enough and, although various parties have to take responsibility, Postecoglou cannot escape how big a part he has played either.
