Mathys Tel ‘plays final game for Tottenham’ after scenes v Brighton

Mathys Tel had a mixed afternoon as Brighton ran out 4-1 winners at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

Tel won the penalty which Dominic Solanke converted in the first half, before Spurs conceded four times as the North London side suffered their 22nd Premier League defeat of the season.

However, the 20-year-old also had a moment to forget against the Seagulls, and it appears as though the defeat to Brighton might have been his final appearance in a Tottenham shirt.

Tel misses golden opportunity for Tottenham in Brighton defeat

Spurs’ defeat against Brighton means they finished the season 17th in the Premier League, which leaves Ange Postecoglou’s long-term future up in the air.

Despite the Lilywhites leading after Solanke converted from the spot, Spurs’ UEFA Europa League celebrations were dampened somewhat as Vicario shipped four goals in North London.

Tel has enjoyed a successful loan at Tottenham

However, it could have been a very different outcome, as after Solanke had scored from the spot, Tel had the chance to extend Spurs’ lead.

The 20-year-old’s left-footed shot following a wonderful run and counter-attack from Tottenham forced a save from Bart Verbruggen that left supporters less than pleased, with one waving goodbye to the Frenchman, while another urged Tottenham not to avoid making his loan stay from Bayern Munich permanent.

Tottenham should purchase Tel from Bayern

Despite a poor performance against Brighton, Tel is a talent Tottenham will be kicking themselves for missing out on.

Currently, the North London club have an agreement with Bayern that could see them purchase Tel permanently for £45million.

The buy option is generous from the German club, and while the youngster is still raw, he possesses a natural technical ability that is found in the best of wingers.

Tottenham have a gem on their hands, and Daniel Levy will need to take the plunge for a permanent deal this summer.
