Lord Alan Sugar slammed for ’embarrassing’ Jamie Redknapp moment involving Tottenham

Lord Alan Sugar has finally seen his Tottenham-related feud with Jamie Redknapp draw to a close.

The businessman served as the Lilywhites’ chairman for a decade-long period between 1991 and 2001, in which the club routinely finished in the middle reaches of the Premier League.

Sugar has kept a close eye on events at Tottenham in the years since his departure, and he hit out at Sol Campbell earlier this year amid a claim from the former defender that he blocked a phone call from Manchester United about a move.

This time around, it is Jamie Redknapp who has fallen into the 78-year-old’s line of fire, and things have finally come to a head.

Lord Alan Sugar branded ’embarrassing’ after Jamie redknapp apology

Redknapp recently made a claim that Sugar left Tottenham “in a right mess” during a broadcast on Sky Sports on 13 September.

The former midfielder was speaking about the possible implications in the aftermath of Daniel Levy’s departure from the N17 outfit, and his comments struck a nerve with the Lilywhites’ former chief.

Sugar branded Redknapp as a “double-barreled idiot” in a post on his X account, and threatened to sue the pundit for his claim.

Redknapp has now issued an apology to the ex-Spurs chairman during Sky Sports’ coverage of the Bournemouth vs Fulham game on Friday night, which Sugar also posted on his X account.

The former England international said: “I apologise to Lord Sugar and his family for any misunderstanding and for any distress caused, and am happy to set the record straight.”

Sugar’s post on X has drawn a strong reaction from fans across the Premier League, with supporters flocking to aim jibes at the businessman in the replies. One even branded Sugar as “embarrassing.”

Lord Sugar debate has detracted from Daniel Levy praise

Levy has left Tottenham in an excellent position behind the scenes, which is the point that Redknapp was seemingly trying to make in the first place before Sugar made his feelings known.

The feud between the pair has certainly detracted from the pundit’s initial assessment, which was more out of praise for the departing executive chairman, rather than any proposed failings from Sugar in the past.

Levy has transformed Spurs into a superpower of world football commercially, and they are arguably in the best position off the pitch that they have ever been in throughout the club’s history.

That should not detract from the efforts of previous boardroom members, but it was certainly Levy who was able to break through the glass ceiling and transform the club.
