Levy slammed as ’embarrassing’ as Frank appointment details emerge at Tottenham

Tottenham are reportedly keen on hiring Thomas Frank to replace Ange Postecoglou, but there is now a stumbling block.

Postecoglou was dismissed despite winning the Europa League, with Tottenham’s woeful domestic campaign coming back to bite him.

Many Spurs fans are furious with Daniel Levy over the decision, with some believing that winning a first trophy in 17 years earned Postecoglou another season.

While Frank would be an excellent appointment if it goes through, there is more reason to be annoyed at Levy as new details over his contract have emerged.

Tottenham stalling over Frank release clause

It has now been reported by The Telegraph (7 June) that Frank’s £10 million release clause at Brentford could stand in the way of Tottenham appointing him, with Levy potentially baulking at paying such a fee.

Spurs fans have now reacted furiously to this development, with Levy in the firing line as he could put the North London club into further jeopardy if they do not land Frank as a result.

One slammed the chairman as “embarrassing” for not having a plan in place, while another joked £1 would be a “stumbling block” for Levy, never mind £10m.

Levy cannot mess up Postecoglou successor

If Spurs refuse to pay Frank’s release clause and the move breaks down, it will further highlight the mess Levy has put Tottenham in, and the blame will lie with him.

Levy’s refusal to pay the release clause of their first-choice target will raise questions over why he simply did not keep Postecoglou instead.

It would highlight the complete lack of a plan to replace the Australian, and if Spurs move onto cheaper targets as a result, there would be even more fury.

Whoever is appointed will need to arrive quickly to give themselves the best chance of success, and Levy will be doing Frank a disservice if there are lengthy delays in negotiations over this fee.

Postecoglou’s replacement has to hit the ground running, with Spurs set to compete in the UEFA Super Cup in August, and the opportunity to play in the Champions League this season cannot be wasted.
