‘Get rid of him’ – Tottenham fans fume as Richarlison v Arsenal footage emerges

Tottenham took the lead through Pape Matar Sarr before half-time in their clash with Arsenal, but it could have been even better.

Spurs beat their bitter rivals 1-0 in Hong Kong as part of their pre-season preparations on Thursday (31 July), in what was the first-ever North London derby to be played outside of the UK.

Tottenham hit the post twice before taking the lead through Pape Matar Sarr’s long-range strike, but they should have scored more.

Richarlison started upfront in the absence of Dominic Solanke, and fans were left furious after one moment in which he missed a glorious chance early on.

Spurs fans fume at Richarlison’s miss v Arsenal

Tottenham threatened Arsenal with their set-pieces in the first half, but should have scored early on as Richarlison found himself at the back post with the goal at his mercy.

The Brazilian somehow missed from less than a yard out, putting his effort over the bar after the ball cannoned back off the post, in what was an early let-off for Arsenal.

Spurs fans could believe what they had seen and took to social media to express their shock.

Richarlison fails centre-forward audition

Richarlison’s future at Spurs is up in the air, and this was a chance for him to impress Thomas Frank to try and earn a starting spot at centre-forward.

Despite playing a part in Sarr’s goal, winning the ball from Myles Lewis-Skelly, it was an otherwise poor performance from the attacker, who was anonymous in the box aside from his miss.

The 28-year-old is behind Solanke in the pecking order upfront, and with Mohammed Kudus joining this summer, his prospects of regular game time are slim, and he has done little to help himself in pre-season.

An exit could be on the cards, and fans would not be too disheartened given his struggles since joining from Everton three years ago.

Richarlison could return to his native Brazil, as his time at Spurs is seemingly set to come to an end.
