Cristian Romero ‘transfer exit sealed’ after mega-money Tottenham development

Tottenham look set to part ways with centre-back Cristian Romero this summer.

Ange Postecoglou is currently without Romero – who appears no closer to returning from injury – while Radu Drăgușin could miss most of what is left of the season.

Therefore, despite already signing Kevin Danso, Spurs desperately need another centre-back before the transfer window shuts at 11 pm on 3 February.

As a result, the club appear to have pulled out all the stops to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guéhi, with Ed Aarons reporting via X (3 February) that the Eagles rejected a bid worth up to £70million from Tottenham for their captain.

However, some fans believe this is a sign that Romero will be sold, rather than a move to strengthen the Tottenham squad.

Marc Guéhi to replace Cristian Romero at Tottenham?

Adding Guéhi to a squad which already has Romero and Micky van de Ven would be a real sign of ambition from Daniel Levy. However, ambition isn’t something which the Spurs chairman usually demonstrates in the transfer window.

Therefore, it is understandable why fans are sceptical of this latest transfer pursuit, with one person suggesting it is simply a PR move from Levy, while many others assume that Romero’s exit has already been sealed, and Guéhi is his replacement.

If Romero does leave the club, it would be a big blow to Spurs, although Guéhi wouldn’t be the worst possible replacement.

However, fans will wonder why they can’t have both players, and the acceptance that this isn’t possible is a sign of the current discontent toward the club’s current ownership.
