Cristian Romero ‘100% leaving Tottenham’ as Spurs skipper launches remarkable tirade

Cristian Romero’s future at Tottenham is massively in doubt.

The Argentina international has been hot-headed both on and off the pitch this season, and Spurs’ captain could be set to leave if the team’s performances don’t improve.

Romero called out the board in a stunning rant on Instagram after losing 3-2 to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on earlier in the season and has now done likewise again.

He posted an alarming message on social media after being taken off as a substitute in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Man City.

Tottenham fans convinced Cristian Romero will leave in the summer

Real Madrid are interested in Romero, and Spanish media outlet Fichajes reported that they are prepared to offer around £69.4million to sign the 27-year-old once the season is finished.

He has been one of the standout performers for Tottenham this season, and fans were surprised to see him substituted at half-time against Pep Guardiola’s side.

Although Thomas Frank confirmed that it was due to illness, Romero insisted that he was fine to stay on the pitch as Spurs only had 11 players available, calling the decision “disgraceful.”

While that is not entirely accurate as Tottenham had the likes of Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert on the bench, it’s encouraging to see the captain be so passionate about the club.

Romero said: “Great effort from all my teammates yesterday – they were incredible. I wanted to be available to help them even though I wasn’t feeling well, especially since we only had 11 players available – unbelievable but true and disgraceful.

We’ll keep showing up and taking responsibility to turn this around, working hard and staying together.
All that’s left is to thank all of you for being there and for always supporting us, the fans.”

Fans reacted to this on social media and claimed that it wouldn’t be a surprise if he were to leave in the summer, with one saying it is “100 per cent” happening.

One supporter said: “How long until Frank comes out and says Romero shouldn’t have said this and this will be dealt with internally?

“No idea why Romero loves the club so much, but what a guy for siding with the fans and demanding more from leadership.”

Another fan added: “Captain fantastic. We’re all with you.”

The 27-year-old centre-back wants to play at the highest level, and with Spurs looking unlikely to qualify for the next season’s Champions League, a summer exit is firmly on the cards.

Cristian Romero is showcasing true leadership at Tottenham

It’s a pretty damning indictment if your club captain is coming out and making statements against the manager and the owners.

That’s the situation Spurs find themselves in, and Romero is certainly earning praise from the fans for his passionate comments.

While it is slightly immature, it shows what Spurs means to him, and how desperate he is to play every minute of every game.

Frank will probably have to address Romero’s comments in the media, although the defender will definitely speak out again if a similar situation arises.

What’s clear is that the situation at Spurs means he will probably leave N17 at the next opportunity.
