Ange Postecoglou already wanted for another job after Tottenham sack – ‘Get it done’

Ange Postecoglou could be back in management sooner than expected after being sacked by Tottenham.

The Australian was handed his marching orders by Daniel Levy despite guiding Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years.

That Europa League final victory against Manchester United (21 May) was not enough to save the 59-year-old from the axe after a miserable domestic campaign.

Postecoglou’s side lost 22 Premier League matches, which ultimately proved too much for Levy despite tasting success in the end.

Scotland job could become available for Postecoglou

Scotland were beaten 3-1 by Iceland at Hampden Park (6 June) on an embarrassing evening for Steve Clarke and Co.

The 61-year-old has been criticised for his negative approach, with the World Cup Qualifiers coming up in September.

If the Scottish FA decided to make a change, the ex-Tottenham boss would prove a popular choice due to his time with Celtic.

Postecoglou is the name on Scotland fans’ lips

Some Tartan Army supporters believe that the former Lilywhites boss is the right man to take over from Clarke in the Hampden Park dugout.

The ex-Australia defender has already managed at the international level with the Socceroos between 2013 and 2017 and his attacking brand of football would be a world away from Clarke’s defensive tactics.

He has knowledge of Scottish football from his time at Celtic Park, so many consider him the perfect candidate now that he has been dismissed from his stint with Spurs.

It may be strange to see Postecoglou on a different touchline for some Spurs supporters but at least if it was in international football, he could not come back to haunt them with a rival Champions League club.

Many fans would be happy to see him return to management, as his sacking was extremely harsh after winning the first trophy for the North London club since the League Cup in 2008.

It remains to be seen whether the former Chelsea coach is sacked and it is unlikely that the SFA would be able to afford Big Ange, as he is affectionately known, but it would be an interesting proposition.
