Tottenham urged to ‘sign Mathys Tel permanently’ after what he did v Wolves

Mathys Tel was one of the few positives to come from yet another Premier League defeat for Tottenham against Wolves on Sunday.

Tottenham were comfortably beaten 4-2 at Molineux after a disastrous start when Rayan Ait-Nouri scored in the second minute.

An own goal from Djed Spence extended Wolves’ lead, but Tel gave his teammates hope when he found the back of the net in the 59th minute.

However, rather than kicking on, they went on to concede a further two goals, with Richarlison’s finish in the 85th minute being nothing more than a consolation.

Tel’s future is uncertain

Tel has been a bright spark at times since he made the move to Spurs during the January transfer window, and even though he’s lacked consistency, the winger has shown plenty of fight and character.

He joined the Lilywhites on loan from Bayern, with Spurs having the option to turn that into a permanent contract at the end of the season.

It would cost the Premier League flops £45million to retain his services, and that would provide Ange Postecoglou with a young, versatile attacker to develop and grow moving forward.

It’s a move that seemed like a no-brainer when Tottenham first signed him, but given the difficulties everyone is having, it might not end up being taken.

Tottenham fans want Tel to stay

At the moment, all of the signs are pointing toward Tel leaving Spurs at the end of the season and returning to Germany.

Tottenham do have the opportunity to retain Tel’s services, and while Daniel Levy and his management team might not be contemplating it, the fans have made it clear they want him to stay.

Timo Werner isn’t going to return after this season; therefore, also losing Tel would stretch the options available to Postecoglou.

Spurs fans felt he was one of the only positives to come out of the Wolves game, and that is why they want Levy to sign him on a permanent basis.

With consistent question marks over the future of Postecoglou, it appears that Levy will sort out the managerial mess before transfers come into play.

Either way, it’s going to be a huge summer at Hotspur Way.
