Tottenham fans furious at Postecoglou announcement v AZ – ‘Gutted’, ‘Justice’
Tottenham host AZ Alkmaar in the huge second leg of their Europa League last 16 tie on Thursday.
Spurs have given themselves an uphill battle, after suffering a 1-0 defeat in the first leg in the Netherlands last week, which came courtesy of Lucas Bergvall’s own goal.
Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou’s side are enduring a woeful domestic campaign, and sit just 13th in the Premier League table following Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth.
Spurs were also knocked out of the FA Cup in the fourth round by Aston Villa, and suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Liverpool in their League Cup semi-final second leg.
Postecoglou is unsurprisingly under heavy pressure, and it seems he hasn’t helped himself.

Spurs fans furious as Gray dropped by Postecoglou
Given Tottenham’s domestic struggles, Postecoglou could be facing the sack if his side are not able to reach the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
Opponent | Result |
Manchester City (H) | 0-1 L |
AZ Alkmaar (A) | 1-0 L |
Bournemouth (H) | 2-2 D |
Meanwhile, ahead of their side’s crunch clash with Alkmaar, Spurs supporters were furious to see Archie Gray left on the bench.
Pape Matar Sarr has been named in midfield, instead, with fans not happy.
One X user commented: “Gutted for Gray”, while another wrote: “Justice for Gray, bailed us out most of the season in an unnatural position and now doesn’t get a kick.”
Success of Tottenham’s season rests on Alkmaar clash
Spurs finished fifth in the Premier League last season, missing out on a Champions League spot by a mere two points following Postecoglou’s first season in charge.
But this time around, their chances of even landing a top-half finish are in serious jeopardy as they currently reside eight points below 10th place Fulham, who clash with Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday.
Postecoglou and co have already been knocked out of both the FA Cup and the League Cup, so their only chances of obtaining silverware for the first time since 2008 rest in the Europa League.
It is therefore vital that to keep their season moving forward in a positive direction, Tottenham manage to overturn their current 1-0 deficit and get the better of Alkmaar in their quest to seal a quarter-final spot.
It is also easy to see why Postecoglou is under so much pressure amid the relatively dreadful campaign his side have endured, albeit an injury plagued one.
Let’s hope leaving Gray out once again, doesn’t backfire.
