Wilfried Ndidi fits Tottenham bill as unhappy Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg set to quit Spurs

Wilfried Ndidi would fit the bill for Tottenham this summer particularly if Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg departs in the next transfer window, Paul Robinson has said.

Denmark midfielder Hojbjerg, 28, outlined his unhappiness at the club when he told Tipsbladet via Football London (28 March), that he was “not satisfied” with a lack of game time under Ange Postecoglou.

Indeed, Hojbjerg has been restricted to just six Premier League starts this season, with the last of those coming on 3 February in a 2-2 draw with Everton.

It was reported by Caught Offside (8 April) that Leicester City defensive midfielder Ndidi, who is out of contract this summer, is of interest to Spurs and Newcastle United this summer.

Former Spurs goalkeeper Robinson, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, thinks all the pieces could fit together nicely.

“He’s a decent player Ndidi, I like what he does. I think he’s very versatile, he can play anywhere across the midfield,” he said.

“But I think from Tottenham’s point of view it’s going to be a case of who leaves and who moves on in those types of positions.

“You look at Hojbjerg, he’s already made noises in the last international break about wanting to play more regularly he’s not overly happy about not playing minutes week in, week out.

“Ndidi comes in and fits that sort of bill in the squad. Timo Werner that’s still up in the air, I don’t expect him to be here next season.

“So there is going to be movement, players moving in and out and I think we’ll see the restructure once it’s clear whose moving.”

Tottenham to swoop for Leicester City ace Wilfried Ndidi?

There are likely a few top-flight clubs monitoring Ndidi, who looks set to depart the King Power Stadium even if Leicester seal an immediate return to the Premier League.

His versatility, ability to keep play ticking over, and dynamism, mean he would be a good fit for Postecoglou, although it remains to be seen if he would get a starting berth.

Regardless, what seems an even safer bet is that Hojbjerg will be moving on this summer. He just has not been able to convince the manager he is worthy of a spot in the team.

It means there is almost an inevitability of a sale in the next few months. Whether Ndidi would come in as a replacement is unsure but there is logic behind all of the noises.
