Paul Robinson: Vicario yet to face biggest test at Tottenham despite good start
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…
Paul Robinson has insisted that Guglielmo Vicario is yet to face his biggest Tottenham challenge despite doing “extremely well” in his early career in N17.
The former Spurs keeper admitted that being the number one is all about longevity and whether or not you can keep up that form for an entire Premier League season.
Illan Meslier at Leeds United has been mentioned as a prime example, as he ended the last Premier League in terrible form and relegated to the Championship.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “Vicario has done extremely well since he’s come to the side.
“The manager has put faith in him and started him every game. He’s his number one at the moment and it’s his jersey to lose.
“Adrenaline gets you through a certain amount of games. It’s about longevity and if he can do it over a season.
“But in a similar way to Illan Meslier at Leeds United, who started absolutely fantastically in the first half of last season. But towards the second half of the second season, his form dropped off. That’s when you make mistakes and when you don’t play at your best.
“It’s how you respond and how you react if you make a mistake in a game and you have a poor game, how do you react in the next game?

“Does that creep into your game? Is there uncertainty? Do you lose confidence or are you able to put that behind you and kick on and continue playing at a level?
“That’s going to be the biggest test for Vicario for the rest of his first season.”
