Paul Robinson: Pape Sarr rejuvenated with Yves Bissouma at Tottenham

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…

Pape Sarr’s excellent form so far this season has set him up to be Tottenham’s star midfielder despite his initial struggles in North London, according to Paul Robinson.

The Senegalese international made the £14.6million move from French side Metz two summers ago now but has only truly announced himself as a key player in the side under Ange Postecoglou in recent weeks.

The former Spurs goalkeeper insisted that having Yves Bissouma next to Sarr in midfield has helped him turn into a completely different player for the better.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “I saw Sarr last season against AC Milan and I thought it was outstanding when he was given his opportunity. He’s still a very young player, but he’s going to be integrated into the side.

“I was surprised last year that Antonio Conte played Oliver Skipp instead of Pape Sarr after the performances that I’ve seen him.

“He’s looking like a complete midfield player. He’s still young and still has got a lot to learn. But with Yves Bissouma next to him, he looks to be rejuvenated and a completely different player.

“Bissouma looks to be the player that Tottenham bought from Brighton. Sarr didn’t get his opportunities under Conte, but with the man management of Postecoglou and the way that they’re playing, Bissouma and Sarr look to be a great partnership.”
