Paul Robinson: Ange Postecoglou can make Tottenham exciting once more

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Paul Robinson believes that Ange Postecoglou almost has a free hit at Tottenham after his appointment, with expectations never lower.

The former Spurs goalkeeper admitted that he is excited to see what the Australian can do, with his work and time at Celtic classed outstanding.

Robinson insisted that Daniel Levy was forced to wait to find a permanent replacement for Antonio Conte, but has now finally got his man over the line.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham Hotspur News, Robinson said: “I am pleased. I am excited to see what style of football he can bring. Obviously when he first came to Celtic, I, like many journalists, footballers and pundits – knew little about him.

“You look at what he’s done at world level and club level. He’s a manager who is very single-minded. He unites a dressing room. He’s very clear on his methods. You look at what he’s done at Celtic, it’s been outstanding.

“I think the exciting thing for Spurs fans is his style of play. He plays with a 4-3-3. He’s attacking. No more back-five parking the bus at home. I don’t think we will see that again.

“You look at the names that were linked. Mauricio Pochettino, Julian Nagelsmann, Xabi Alonso. Top managers. People couldn’t run away quickly enough.

“It’s been 70-odd days since Conte was sacked and now they’ve appointed the new manager. People criticise Daniel Levy, but he’s waited. He got it wrong with Nuno and this is probably the biggest summer that Daniel has ever had at Spurs regarding managerial decisions and player decisions.

“Expectations at Tottenham are at an all-time low. Postecoglou has almost got a free hit. They aren’t going to finish as low as they did in 2022/23.

“I think no-European football and his knowledge of the Far East and the players he can bring in – I am excited to see what he can do.

“I think they’ve taken their time. I am not disappointed. I am very much looking forward to what he can bring to Tottenham. I am certainly looking forward to the brand of football.”

In other Tottenham news, there are plenty of other youth players at Tottenham who could be offered a route to the first team.
