‘Véliz to exit Tottenham’ as ‘advanced’ transfer claim shared – Exclusive

Tottenham will be glad to finally get Alejo Véliz off their books this summer.

Despite signing a six-year deal with Tottenham in 2023, Véliz has made just eight appearances for the North London club.

The striker was sent to Sevilla midway through his debut season and spent last year on loan with Espanyol. However, Véliz struggled to make any impact in Spain.

As a result, the Lilywhites are expected to offload the 21-year-old this summer.

Véliz to be sold despite no official bids

Several clubs are expected to push for Véliz, but a return to his boyhood side looks most likely.

As reported by TycSports (5 July), Véliz’s former club Rosario Central are keen on his return, and it is understood that the Argentinian club’s president and vice president have travelled to England to negotiate with Tottenham’s directors.

However, reports of bids from Argentinian clubs were squashed previously when Football London reported (27 June) that Spurs were yet to receive a formal bid for Véliz.

As a result, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes any news from Argentina should be taken with a pinch of salt.

“We saw a lot of reports of offers from Argentina,” Wenham said

“However, Alasdair Gold came out and said Tottenham hadn’t received any bids. I don’t know if the noise from Argentina was journalists putting out feelers to see how Tottenham would respond.

“Either way, it’s clear that no offer has reached Tottenham yet, although I do think Véliz will still be sold this summer. However, talks obviously aren’t as advanced as we hoped.”

Daniel Levy has been embarrassed once again

Daniel Levy is renowned for his meticulous approach to Spurs’ business endeavours and the club’s finances. However, Véliz is just one of the latest in the long line of failed transfers.

Tottenham fans would tell you that Tanguy Ndombele was hyped to be sensational when he was signed for a record fee. However, countless injuries, poor performances and loan spells meant that he never reached his full potential in North London.

Richarlison has become the most recent example of players failing to live up to their hype at Spurs, and Véliz has now taken over that mantle with Tottenham seemingly working around the clock to sell him this summer.

Therefore, this recent transfer blunder should act as a learning curve for Levy moving forward.
